چکیده

The analysis of the structure of SNOMED CT revealed several ontological and knowledge-engineering errors. The authors propose a methodology based on the formal top-level ontology DOLCE to correct these errors.

Large-Scale, Exhaustive Lattice-Based Structural Auditing of SNOMED CT

One criterion for the well-formedness of ontologies is that their hierarchical structure forms a lattice. Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) has been used as a technique for assessing the quality of ontologies, but is not scalable to large ontologies such as SNOMED CT (> 300k concepts). We developed a methodology called Lattice-based Structural Auditing (LaSA), for auditing biomedical ontologies, im...

Investigations into the use of SNOMED CT to enhance an OpenMRS health information system

In this paper, we discuss the advantages of using formal medical ontologies to enhance health information systems. In particular, we consider the suitability of the medical ontology Snomed CT for enhancing a health information system developed in the OpenMRS framework. We propose ways in which Snomed CT can be linked to an OpenMRS application, based on our experience of extracting a module of S...

Learning Formal Definitions for Biomedical Concepts

Ontologies such as the SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT), and the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) play a major role in life sciences. Modeling formally the concepts and the roles in this domain is a crucial process to allow for the integration of biomedical knowledge across applications. In this direction we propose a novel methodology to learn formal definitions for biomedical concepts from un...

BLUSNO: A System for Orientation, Visualization, and Quality Assurance of SNOMED CT Using Abstraction Networks

Biomedical ontologies are generally very large and complex. Their size and complexity make quality assurance a difficult and timeconsuming task. Compact networks called abstraction networks can be derived to summarize the content and structure of ontologies and support their quality assurance. The Biomedical Layout Utility for SNOMED CT (BLUSNO) is a system for automatically deriving and visual...

Are SNOMED CT Browsers Ready for Institutions? Introducing MySNOM

SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) is one of the most widespread ontologies in the life sciences, with more than 300,000 concepts and relationships, but is distributed with no associated software tools. In this paper we present MySNOM, a web-based SNOMED CT browser. MySNOM allows organizations to browse their own distribution of SNOMED CT under a controlled environment, focuses on navigating usi...
